If you live in Las Vegas chances are that you have experienced the long lines at your local DMV. For those of you moving to Las Vegas you may want to continue reading. When I moved to Las Vegas I was pulled over for driving on expired tags. Frankly I just didn't have enough money to register my car after moving expenses.
My co-workers told me to be prepared to wait in line at the Las Vegas DMV for 3-4 hours. I thought they were joking at first. Boy did I learn the hard way! So I took some time off of work in the morning and planned my trip to the local DMV. Four hours later I walked out of the Department Of Motor Vehicles empty handed. So what went wrong?
I did my research to make sure I was fully prepared. I even brought some reading material while I waited. I thought I had everything and I did...except for one piece of documentation that that the DMV lady forgot to mention. That's right! I waited 30 minutes on the phone before I even went to the DMV just to speak with some one to make sure I had the right documentation. It was a nightmare to say the least.
Recently I was browsing yahoo and learned of this new program that Las Vegas Constable Robert Gronauer recently announced. It's called the Fair Share Program. Bottom line, if your driving on out of state license plates and you live here in Nevada, you should consider making a trip to the DMV. Under the Fair Share Program citizens can report you to local law enforcement if they suspect you live Las Vegas and are driving around with out of state license plates.
Nevada state law requires that you register your vehicle within 30 days of moving here. If your pulled over or reported, fines and enforcement fees can total $1,100. I dislike waiting in line at the DMV just as much as anyone else.
